On Monday, I had quite an adventure. I visited several places in the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area. One of them is the Marine Mammal Center located near Rodeo Beach in Marin County. It is a world-renowned animal center that focuses on rescue, rehabilitation and research of Marine mammals like sea lions and seals, who live off the shores of the San Francisco Bay and along the Pacific Coast. I was surprised to learn that some of the seals brought into the center suffered illnesses that stem from gunshot wounds, cancer, shark bites, seaweed suffocation, etc... Of course, some of them do not survive their ordeals as I come to observe at the post-mortem room. One has to really be strong to see a dead animal. Since I love animals very much, I wasn't ready to see that. But, at the same time, I thought it was an important part of the Center's way of educating the public about the seriousness of environmental protection in maintaining the survival of a specie. Seals are the natural inhabitants of the San Francisco Bay Area, and it's great to see how much work and attention is put forth to save them. Thanks for reading.
This is a slide show of my pictures taken at the Marine Mammal Center. Hope you enjoy:
