green apple

(Photos: Perri's selection of books, my new t-shirt!, Perri's shot of the logo, my favorite kind of card, green apple storefront)

My sister Susan, Brian, Perri, Carlin and I visited the Green Apple Books & Music store last weekend in the Richmond District of San Francisco. It has been around for 40 years and known for the way they buy, sell, and trade new and used books, CDs, and DVDs 7 days a week. Green Apple is consistently voted the best bookstore in the Bay Area. On the weekends, it is usually jam-packed with people.
As much as I love bookstores, I try to minimize buying unless it's a book I really really want and need. ;-) My shelves are already overloaded! I also enjoy browsing through Green Apple's unique card collection especially the 'I Love the Planet' cards (see a sample above). I find that it's important to check out and support the local bookstores in your neighborhood, especially the mom and pop, independent ones, that operate and cater to local taste. It is because their profit always goes back to the local community versus the big chain bookstores who are making corporate dollars for business reasons, not for establishing literacy and community among people. Thanks for reading! And, happy reading!
