Rodeo Beach

I went to Rodeo Beach on Monday, August 3rd. It was quite breezy with fair temperatures of 68F but it was still a beautiful day. I like meditating on the sand for about 5 minutes. I would do yoga if I only had brought my mat and yoga wear. The path leading into the beach was hilly and the ocean became visible only on the last step up from the hill. My friends and I were imagining for some people who live on land-locked areas, seeing the ocean must be only an imagination. I was reminded of the film, "The Cider House Rules" in which Homer, the older orphan, who left his 'home' and hopped on a car ride and told the couple that he had never seen the ocean before. And, guess what? They drove him to see the ocean for the first time in his 25 years of life. It was breathtaking. Everytime I see an ocean, I think of Homer and all the Homers out there.

Find out more about Rodeo Beach: taken from Wikipedia:

"Rodeo Beach is a beach in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area located in Marin County, California, two miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge. It is characterized by a split of around 50 meters width at the mouth of a long embayment, known as Rodeo Lagoon; for much of the year the lagoon is cut off from the ocean, making the beach spit a baymouth bar. Part of the beach is sheltered by cliffs. Rodeo Beach is known for its dark, pebbly sand, its uses for surfing and sunbathing, and its locale as a place for collecting semi-precious stones. This beach is unique among California beaches in that it is comprised largely of coarse, pebbly chert grains, both red and green in color. Its mineral composition sets it apart from every other beach in the state. Surfing is possible throughout the year and at all tidal stages, but is best in summer - although there is the risk of shark attacks."
