I registered for the Bridge to Bridge 12K Run and cancelled the San Jose Rock 'n Roll Half-Marathon. It's just too difficult to coordinate the schedule between me and my good friend Susan who was going to run it together. We both have Friday and Saturday classes that weekend, and to get to San Jose (1 hour drive South of SF) before the Expo closes by 6pm, just doesn't work. Though we did looked forward to staying at a hotel the night before the Sunday morning race, we decided to do another adventure soon.
The Bridge to Bridge 12K Run is labeled as "America's Most Beautiful Run." I think I would agree with that. ;-) It benefits the Special Olympics which was founded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, a woman whom I blogged and admire. Details of the race below:
The 33rd Annual Glide Floss Bridge to Bridge 12K and 7K run/walk
benefiting Special Olympics of Northern California
Sunday, October 4th, 2009
Starts at 9:00am in front of the Ferry Building
From the website:
Whether you run or walk the 12K or the 7K, you'll enjoy the views! Both courses start together downtown at the Ferry Building in the shadow of the Bay Bridge, then run through Fisherman's Wharf, along the Marina Green, through beautiful Crissy Field which offers magnificent views of the Golden Gate Bridge and finally finishing at the historic Parade Grounds in the Presidio National Park. The Glide Floss Bridge to Bridge is a sightseeing tour of San Francisco with beautiful vistas everywhere you turn.
I'm so excited to do the run with my runner friends Sylvia and Marie! I would be thinking of Mel as she moves forward with the San Jose half-marathon. It'll be her 4th half-marathon! More running ahead and I can't wait! ;-)
