The World Cup 2010 is the most watched sporting event in the World. This year, it is held from June 11-July 11, 2010 in South Africa, the first-time ever it is held in the African continent. Growing up, the World Cup has always been part of our lives, since my dad was a huge fan of the World Cup! My mom always shares with us the story of her and my dad staying up late at night watching the World Cup while they have put us to bed already. She said the action was contagious, and they had to watch a match in real time to get the full effect of the event.
Sine June 11, I have been hooked myself. I've been watching the matches especially when the only 3 Asian coutries in the World Cup are playing: North Korea, South Korea, and Japan. I am rooting for Japan. The United States is definitely the weaker team in the history of the World Cup. The match between the U.S. and England (1-1) was very slow, unskillful, and definitely not strong at all. It is very obvious the top 7 teams ranked in Group 1 are the stronger teams such as Germany, Brazil, Argentina, etc... An Asian country has never won the World Cup before, so I am rooting for Japan, because never say never.
Tomorrow morning is the match between South Korea and Argentina. It is at 7:00am PDT. Though it's early, I am thrilled to watch it! What a glorious summer, to be finished with school (no homework!) and enjoying the World Cup which comes only once every 4 years. Boy, am I lucky! The World Cup has such significant sentiments in my vivid memory of dad and my childhood days. There's huge collection of past matches taped by dad on the shelf. Those are priceless and so are these days, just sitting back, and making noises and critiquing the plays and enjoying a world-favorite sport that has been around since 1930, and will probably be still around when I am in my 60's. Watching it is absolutely a joy! ;-) Woohooo...!!!
