I flew to Hong Kong on a whim from Sep. 30-Oct.13 2008 to deal with a few financial matters. Fortunately, everything went as smooth as jello! But, I couldn't help but noticed the frantic cries of those who suffered from the impact of the U.S. financial crisis. What's re-assuring is that in life, what comes down will surge back up like a gyro spyro, and it goes the same for the economy as most financial analysts had repeatedly said in the media. I keep the faith.

Of course, a trip to Hong Kong is not enough without some sugar and spice. Feeling the dynamic force of this 'dragon' city, I literally couldn't sleep throughout my whole trip. Was it the still-hot temperatures? Or the sounds of voices and traffic? Or the line-up of everything I had planned? Here were some of the highlights:
Hong Kong on a Whim
long queues at the taxi stand
with no umbrella
at Times Square
total madness
at Sheung Wan station
overwhelmed by
a sea of people crisscrossing
the MTR turnstile
endless doot doot.....
to hear another mobile phone
sounding off
was mind-numbing
and now my mum was calling,
long-distance,
the #968 bus
screeched to a
complete halt
on the wet pavement
on a Friday night at 6:30 pm
rush hour
unlike any I had recalled
but I forced myself NOT to turn back
Until the bodies had cleared
away.
Delicious Dim Sum.
Buffet with Mabel at Congress Restaurant
as American sounding as that
can be, heaven atop the
Wan Chai Convention Center
couldn't wait for Canadian Diana Krall

to jazz up the next hour!
Margaritas and
nachos at Dan Ryan's
after 'The Duchess' at Pacific Place
still dreamy for Charles Grey
who refused to let go of his true love
Georgina.
Spruced myself up with a hydrating facial
highlights added color
and the length of my hair was shorter
everyday the sun followed me in the
tranquil strolll scissoring Yuen Long's
luscious green park trails
after a ramen breakfast with
internet access at the
local theatre
just as Joey could slip
away from her office.
Back to Metro Town
at Tiu Keng Leng
with a ritual meal
with Mabel,
and must visit the People's Cafe
at Causeway Bay
chilling with my favorite grape seltzer!
Still managed to fight
the madness to Red Ant
with Connie
chatting away usually
and her new found love for
Olympic basketball
oh my lord
she admired those players leaping like
giants as did her mum's beloved
Kobe Bryant.
Rode the KCR train to the House of Beijing
in Tsuen Wan's new City Walk
and had to do something for myself
like Ice Skating and shopping at TaiKooShing
a blue pashmina
two pairs of soft suede pumps
black and tan.
Enjoyed a home-cooked dinner with Myra
and she shared with me her plans.
A quiet tea lunch at Lee Theatre with Kai Ma
and a hot pot & BBQ night
a 10:00am boat ride
to Bai Shan at Tai O
Happy Valley for a day
oatmeal for health reasons
and a visit to Kai Ye's sister
at the Home for the Aged
on Morrison Hill
a reminder of
our own frailties and strength
comforted with
compassion!
Discovered Famous Amos cream puffs
at Langham Place
and thinking of Ming Yin College
nostalgia overwhelms me
and I smiled from my heart
and enjoyed Indian food with Mark
at Mong Kok
then Friday to Mei Foo
at Benz's cozy
and warm home
with Mathew and Mrs. Lim too
savoring his 3-hour brewed
red bean soup.
Onto Tsing Yi
Maritime Square
to Shanghai Kitchen
with Heidi and Crystal
along the waterfront pier
and pizza and pasta on a last
Saturday night
as 4th aunt and Vincent
tried to put up a fight.
Final long evening walks and
talks with Oli
from 10pm-2am!
itchy legs and tired ankles
made me sore and
I laid awake
til Sunday sushi at Sheung Shui
wih Sally Sonnex
as I treasured her photos trekking
and diving in Borneo,
and farewell dinner at Auntie's home
before she goes to South Africa
and a report of my
financial matters,
at least an "A" I could say
was the conclusion of that mess,
I won't have guessed
these 2 months of waiting for my 11 boxes
that were dispatched
from Hong Kong in July,
what could be next?
when will they arrive in San Francisco?
In a jiffy
in a song
in a flash
on a short moment's notice
on a fantastical whim
I couldn't believed I flew to Hong Kong!
