heart of education = students

I've been keeping a pocket full of stories since I went into teaching. Today is another story. I received an email from a former student at Ming Yin College. A highly gifted young woman with poise, depth and courage. She wrote a wonderful letter that I have included here. It highlights the student/teacher relationship, a dynamic that I value and honor and miss a great deal. I have been reading a book titled 'My Grandfather's Blessing' by a holistic physician, who writes, 'they are just reminders to stay awake and listen, because the mystery at the heart of life may speak to you at any time.' I believe 'they' are my beloved students, who reminds me to stay conscious of the mysteries of those teacher/student dynamics and the wonderful surprises and lessons that arise from them. I feel very blessed and have a more conscious sense of why I love teaching and why I am pursuing a graduate degree in Education. The world is truly in a young person's hands and to have played a part in their lives blesses me equally. Thank you.

Dear Miss Mak,

I really want to say something today as I remember we went to your home on 4th April last year. Time goes very fast. It has been a year already. It was a great experience because it's the first time we went to a teacher's home. We were suprised when you once promised to let us go. We learnt much from the advertising competition and we all thought that you helped us a lot. Also, I remember you named our team
"MY3C", which made me feel warm and sweet.
Hope you are doing well. If you do not sleep well at night, I hope you will remember our advertising team's product, WACO.=P

Love,
Zoe
