Walk Along

Mom showed me her 'secret' garden - San Francisco Botanical Garden located at Golden Gate Park over the weekend. She's doing very well after her chemotherapy treatments. She's enjoying mahjong, television, dim sum and lunches, friends, and daily walks. She's looking forward to eating sashimi, just 1 more week before she can eat that, according to her doctor. Apparently, recovering cancer patients should not eat raw or acidic food like tomatoes, lemon, etc... Mom's been so good in obeying her doctor's order.

When I was walking with mom, I was thinking of a poem by Gwendolyn Brooks. It's a lovely poem quoted many times before. It basically means to live for the present and in the moment. Whatever that has happened in the past has no power over the present moment because life is now. Mom's doing exactly that. We talked about quality of life being in the mind as much as in the body. Love & peace everyone! Thanks for reading!

Here's the poem:

Speech to the Young : Speech to the Progress-Toward -By the great Gwendolyn Brooks

Say to them,
say to the down-keepers,
the sun-slappers,
the self-soilers,
the harmony-hushers,
"even if you are not ready for day
it cannot always be night."
You will be right.
For that is the hard home-run.

Live not for battles won.
Live not for the-end-of-the-song.
Live in the along.
