Sunday Streets is a new trend in San Francisco where blocks of city streets are closed off to allow walkers, runners, bikers to enjoy outdoor activities in a traffic-free zone. It started in the Mission District and has now been done in the Sunset District along the Great Highway from Ocean Beach towards the San Francisco Zoo. On August 9, me, cousin Olivia & her mom Aunt Elaine, Uncle Eddie & Alice checked out Sunday Streets by doing 2 hours of brisk walking. The temperature was nice and warm but there was a thick partial blanket of fog covering the coastline. The city was half sunny and half foggy. It isn't something peculiar for people living in San Francisco. There was approximately 2000+ people who turned out, mostly bikers and even young children cycling with their parents. Near the Ocean Beach area, there were arts and crafts booths, as well as sample fruit drinks and crowds of people, mainly locals like myself who live in the area. Overall, Sunday Streets is a great idea for city folks who long for traffic-free roads to enjoy outdoor activities. It has yet to spread to the rest of the city's neighborhood but while it's at the Sunset, I sure don't want to miss it!
