I finally saw Brokeback Mountain (2005) directed by Ang Lee. It was one of the most beautiful love story I've ever seen in a Hollywood picture. Both actors - Jake Gyllenhaal and the late Heath Ledger took a risky move in portraying a same-sex relationship. I don't believe Jack Twist or Ennis Del Mar are 'gay' because they have developed relationships with women as well. I believe they are 'bi-sexuals' and fell in love with each other. In fact, they really couldn't identify or define what it was they had for each other because it was beyond their understanding having been bred in a society and environment in the Wild West where cowboys are macho, laconic, uneducated and stoic. Both Jack and Ennis fell in love at first sight and they bonded instantly in the backdrop of the epic beauty of Brokeback Mountain. It makes me want to embrace the outdoors again! A simple way of life and deep connection with another human being is heaven on earth! I was completely in awe of Ang Lee's direction and the way he told the story of Jack and Ennis. The part where I choked up the most was the last scene between Ennis and Jack at Brokeback Mountain. After nearly 20-years of seeing one another, they bare their souls again in a heated argument. Jack professed what he would have wanted from Ennis which was to build a life together, whereas Ennis confronted his own set of fears and blamed Jack for the way things have become. I broke down and cry watching that scene. That same kind of intimate conversation can occur between any two people who love each other, not just between people of the same sex. The whole movie transcended to me how love is worth fighting for in this too realistic and practical world of ours. If I was one of the characters, I think I am Jack, who is a little bet more of a dreamer, a visualizer, an optimist and a true lover.
Actor Jake Gyllenhaal really took my breath away. I read an interview he gave to People Magazine where he stated that he took on the risky role in Brokeback Mountain because he believed in the film's message. He says, "In the end, it's about how hard it is to love somebody, to really be intimate, to really let go and be open to that, no matter what the context." That is the heart of Brokeback Mountain.
I became so intrigued with Jake Gyllenhaal particularly his acting and his activism. He strikes me as not only handsome but a very down-to-earth fella. As you can see, I've collected some great photos of him on-line and made a collage. Celebrities are a whole different breed, and they're human too. But, if I could put my finger on a very very interesting and attractive man in Hollywood, it would be Jake Gyllenhaal! The day he gets married, I will shed a tear! Hahaha...thanks for reading!
